Criminal Law

Peter A. Simm has lectured internationally on the law of nudity. He might be one of Canada’s leading experts on that narrow topic. However, despite five seconds of worldwide media notoriety about Simm’s 2002 victory as sole defence counsel for the 7 accused in R. v. Westgate,  he has zero criminal trial experience.

Indeed, before being retained, he expressly warned the 7 accused that if he did not succeed in quickly getting all the charges withdrawn, he would have to help them find experienced criminal trial counsel to take over carriage of the file. Fortunately that turned out to be unnecessary.

To find out why there was mainstream media reportage on every continent in the world (except Antarctica), and how Simm succeeded in getting all the charges withdrawn (despite hundreds of thousands of witnesses, including dozens of police officers, and well-lit high-definition police surveillance video), click here.
