Simm Leads Successful Effort to Extend Official Clothing‑Optional Zone at Hanlan’s Point Beach |

In 2000, Peter A. Simm led the successful campaign to convince Toronto City Council (and its relevant committees) to extend the official clothing-optional zone at Hanlan's Point Beach on Toronto Island. The zone was extended in two senses. First, the pilot project which had created the zone in 1999 for a one-year period was extended for an additional two years. Second, the size of the zone was expanded by an additional 35 metres of beachfront, with the intention of encompassing an existing lifeguard station. (Previously, in 1999, Simm wrote a highly influential brief to Council which was adopted by a staff report that convinced Council to implement his idea of creating the zone. Later, in 2002, he led the successful campaign to make the zone permanent.) |
